On any given day I get my coffee from up to four of the below sources.
In order of preference:
1. Espresso machine
2. Chemex caraft
3. French press
4. Drip

When I was in my 20s people seemed to think it very odd that I would order a C oke with my breakfast. I’d like to think I was just a trendsetter.

Nespresso machine or a Aeropress for me. Mostly it’s espresso. Often.

Currently I only have a m oka pot (I should have a French press, but I haven’t seen it in years, so I guess I should buy another?) In any event, I’m not sure I’m and unbearable snob or faking fancy , but I’d clearly like to be! Also clear: I don’t drink coffee regularly or I’d have something more practical.

The espresso machine is fast, I can go from cold to hot coffee in less than 5 minutes. I have a Gaggia, it gets used a lot.

I like the drip machine because it’s the only one that I can set up the night before and plug into a christmas tree timer so I can have fresh coffee when I get up at 5am

I’m kinda in between the first and last... I use a Keurig but grind my own beans and use an EkoBrew, so it’s a single cup regular drip machine . Never actually b ought any pods.

As your friend, I’d implore you to knock down the sugar while you’re young, but yes I went through that phase too. With Doctor Pepper.

My kitchen is about 5'6 x 10' wall to wall, so I had to opt for something tiny. I only have 7 sf of counter space.

By the way, on the espresso, it took me way too long to figure out that the “perfect espresso” is almost completely dependent on the perfectly spec’d grind. It’s downright weird how the grind has to be spot-on.... Burr Grinder for the win.

Sort of, but Moka pots operate under pressure like an espresso machine and the br ewed coffee is deposited into a separate carafe instead of recirculating like in a perc.

My coffee machine was like ten bucks, the switch on the side to turn it on and off broke a while back, so I took it apart and rewired it with no switch, so I just unplug it to turn it off now
It still works...

Exactly. The commentariot s on the Dune Trailer thread the other day were advancing the weak-sauce theory that Herbert wrote Dune in reaction to the “oil crisis” (which was at least a decade in the future).
Clearly the melange spice was Arabica blend, with the caffeine’s ability to overcome fear and tough math, like is it better to buy the E10 and sacrifice mileage or just buy up to “real” gasoline... on my way to Starbucks?

BTW, I love the running gag in Bosch about how shitty the LAPD contractually-obligated Keurig coffee pods are... so the Day Watch Commander’s always got a stash of “good” Keurig pods hidden somewhere.

Got the drip machine at home which i make a few extra cups to keep me going. When I was in the office went with a French press since the provided drip coffee was hardly considered coffee.

For whatever reason, everything coming out of a Keurig always seems to taste the same to me, unless it's specifically flavored with like chocolate or vanilla or something.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 11:38 |

Yeah, when I see the pressure spike wildly on my 19 bar machine it always means that I ground the coffee TOO fine that day. It’s weird how the grind has to be really fine and uniform, but not too fine.
I tried one of the latin espressos off Amazon and it was amazing. That’s pre-ground, so that’s probably part of it.

Drip coffee. Because I don’t have to grind my own coffee and I still don’t get any grit. And I can make it the night before, stagger to the kitchen in the morning and hit one button and soon I will have coffee.

That was one “trick of the trade” that it took (me) forever to figure out. Even slight changes in grind completely alter the crema.
And, because I used the word “crema” it’s clear that I abhor Cold Brew or, as I call it, The Colt 45 Malt Liquor of Coffees.
Gotta go though. My polo pony’s up for his Rub and a Tug before the big match today.

$15 drip machine and a three-pound can of Kirkland coffee do me just fine. Fancy coffee is wasted on me; I can hardly tell the difference.
Though today I’m happy to have any coffee at all; our power was knocked out by a thu
nderstorm last night, so I couldn’t make any... thank heaven for 7-Eleven, as they say.

K-cup
go ahead and hate, but I find it is just like my familys 12 cup coffee maker. I only drink 1-2 cups a day and really dont want to mess with a normal coffee maker and wasting coffee grounds, extra coffee gets cold, etc.

I love that image.
Lots of talk about coffee makers. But the real key to any good coffee from any machine at all, even drip, is water quality. As in, not distilled and SOME minerals within. I got a drip maker but only after many reviews which pointed out that it actually surpassed many boutique fancy makers with store bought coffee.....it is 99% water anyway.
But for some reason while in a cabin in the woods, a french press is pretty awesome.

Kirkland Coffee doesn’t suck. My dad buys their orga ni c house blend and it makes a good cuppa joe.

But which nespresso? Original or vertuo?
![]() 09/18/2020 at 12:57 |

Hmm.
I usually just use the drip machine, but I have other options: moka, French press (single serve and four cup options) , nespresso, aero press, or regular pourover. And maybe an electric percolator somewhere.

Original. I have the Essenza, which is not a Lamborghini but a wee coffee maker. I gave my folks a Vertuo machine for Christmas because they needed to upgrade from the gross Keurig.

I have a french press and a kuerig. Kuerig isn’t bad if you’re packing your own beans. Either way fresh grounds ftw

Cold brew in a stemless wine glass. I have a French press, but never use it. A quality espresso or single origin pour over are also very enjoyable, but I like to reserve these for coffee occasions. Any time I can sit and just relax drinking coffee. Ideally when it isn’t hot. If I’m on the move, or working, I love to sip on cold brew for a long period of time. It’s nice to have a consistent temperature, even if that means it getting a little watered down. Also, there are very few beverages that I prefer to be warm. I don’t have time to be letting my drinks cool haha

I like cold brew but have not figured out how to make it well at home yet.

It is a pain so I’ve just been buying it lately. Trader Joe’s French roast concentrate and califia farms black have been my go to premades. They were readily available before covid but now it seems like their supply cannot keep up with the increased demand.
They are a happy medium between price, ease, and taste.

I did #4 for a while but in my case it was “A coffee maker costs money and I don’t wanna spend on it” type of deal.
